New Aguilar TLC Compressor sound clips

Adam Nitti

Aguilar recently released a new compressor pedal, called the TLC Compressor. It is a fantastic piece of tone-shaping gear that I am using live and in the recording studio. I recently put together some sound clips to demonstrate it, which can be heard on the Aguilar website. It really is an amazing piece of gear for the money… Here are some comments I recently made about it on my Facebook page, for those of you curious about how it performs:

“[the TLC Compressor] actually has replaced my other compressors that i’ve used for years. it has this smoothness to it that i can only liken to more expensive tube compressors. it definitely has more of a ‘vintage’ type of sound… …kind of has that bass ‘blossoming’ quality that makes the tone more expansive and dynamic. used sparingly, it is ultra transparent and is surprisingly quiet. used more heavily, it sounds like you’re running your bass through something more similar to an la2a… the threshold and slope controls are very responsive, and you can dial in settings quickly. you can certainly go overboard with the compression if you want to for some added effect, but i typically have been running the threshold at about 50% with my passive basses. what i also like about it is that you don’t hear it ‘breathe’ when it grabs notes. it’s very smooth on and off threshold… ”

Heather Headley wins Grammy for “Audience Of One”

Congratulations to Heather Headley! She won Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album for “Audience Of One” at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night. I am especially excited about her win because my bass playing can be heard on “Audience Of One.” Special thanks to producer Keith Thomas for allowing me to be a part of the project. Heather is one of the greatest singers I have had the opportunity to work with, and I wish her much continued success.
